In the Eighties, the new book from London photographer Derek Ridgers, delves into his vast archive of street portrait photography once more, this time offering insight into post-modern life, and style, in 1980s Britain.

For a generation experiencing “a decade of mass unemployment, strikes and riots,” the flurry of subcultures, or ‘tribes’, captured by Ridgers are revealed to be as much about escapism as expression, offering “ways out of the traditional identities that people no longer wanted to assume.”
