EDITORIAL: Janine Ker sets out to emulate nature’s colours and patterns onto hair in this sun-drenched tale

Exploring the boundaries between nature and artifice, hair artist Janine Ker sets out to emulate nature’s colours and patterns onto hair, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved through cut and colour. Crowns of heads are stripped of their organic growth, each one shorn into a blank canvas and transformed into floral tapestries by Ker. Depictions of flower petals and leaves are intricately carved and coloured in layers of soft pastel hues, before being captured against a backdrop of the real thing by photographer Alex Black. The result is hair captured in nature, in its most unnatural state.
