ART + CULTURE: Hair is depicted as a powerful and abundant force in Sivan Karim’s ethereal illustrations
Artwork: Sivan Karim
Words: Emma de Clercq
Sivan Karim creates monochrome illustrations which present hair as a rapidly growing life form. Using Chinese inks, the Berlin-based artist draws hair in hypnotic detail, constructing surreal and sensual scenes in which it appears to ripple and flow freely from the heads of its hosts.
You can tell a story with hair. A Japanese proverb says that ‘hair is the heart of a woman’. I find this statement very beautiful and powerful.
