Taking Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland as its starting point, Curiouser and Curiouser is a collaboration between photographer Erika Astrid and hairstylist Evanie Frausto. The viewer, in the role of Alice, is transported through Astrid and Frausto’s contemporary version of ‘wonderland’, reimagined as a sterile, white space. Meanwhile, the kaleidoscopic colours of the original story are replaced by organic, earthy tones – khakis, greys, mossy greens and burnt yellows. Frausto’s intricate headpieces take reference from the extravagant hairstyles of the 18th century – dense, perfect cylinder curls and towering sculptural shapes.
