EDITORIAL: JC Verona and Radio Hair create a 5-course meal that might make you want to call the waiter

The team at Radio Hair Salon teamed up with photographer JC Verona to create a distinctive smorgasbord of delicacies so rare that it’s unlikely you have been served these before. We spoke to Paris France, the Senior Artistic Director at Radio Hair about coping in lockdown, and using the time to learn and reflect.

Tell us a bit about yourself and what you do. I began my journey at Vidal Sassoon at the age of 16. After leaving there, I came to Radio as Senior Art Director, and have since taken courses in period hair at Pinewood studios and  completed a makeup course enabling me to have a strong salon base and team at Radio, as well as freelancing in hair and makeup for fashion, advertising, music and any other fun projects that come my way!

What have you been working on in quarantine?I’ve been lucky to be quarantined with my hair and makeup kit so I’ve enjoyed styling my hair and wigs, and adding a bit of make up to create different characters. My living room has been changed into a playroom.

Have you found any alternative outlets for your creativity while confined? The time has given me the opportunity to not only become a DIY goddess, but also spend time researching different beauty eras. I’ve been drawing, trying out makeup looks, discovering how to put videos together, etc.

What are you missing most about your job? Not being one to sit still I miss everything about it. I’m missing my work colleagues, clients, the energy and inspiration this industry gives you.

The answer to this may well be a big ‘no’ but have any unexpected positives come out of this incredibly difficult situation? Although I’m looking forward to going back it’s definitely given me time to think about how to go back in the most positive way. Having more time has definitely opened my mind to get things moving without the distractions.

What are you hopes and fears for the hair industry when this is all over? When we finally get back I can imagine it will be quite different. I hope we can use our time more effectively. I think sometimes we are all running at such a fast pace, that we aren’t appreciating life as we should.
