“In this editorial, the distinctive headwear adorning the female models carries a profound cultural significance, adding a touch of nostalgia and personal connection to the 80s atmosphere of love.

The focal point of the models’ ensembles is the traditional Yoruba headpiece known as gele. Originating in Nigeria, gele holds a special place in the hearts of Yoruba women, especially during momentous occasions. The gele, with its intricate folds and elaborate designs, is more than just a fashion statement; it encapsulates cultural heritage, familial ties, and the essence of celebrations. After delving into family archives, where numerous images showcased my mother elegantly donning the gele on various significant occasions—notably, it graced her head on the day she exchanged vows—I decided to incorporate this meaningful accessory into the shoot.

Each model, adorned with the gele, becomes a living embodiment of the cherished memories I discovered in my family archives—a nod to the rich cultural tapestry that continues to shape the narrative of love and togetherness. It becomes a symbol of heritage, love, and a heartfelt connection to the past. As the models grace the images with this traditional headpiece, they carry forward a legacy that intertwines fashion, culture, and the enduring spirit of love from a bygone era.”
