EDITORIAL: Alexis Ferrer stuns again with hair prints for his newest collection, this time drawing on a 19th century Rococo decorative technique inspired by East Asian illustrative aesthetics

The latest revelation in his technical experimentation that began in 2012, Alexis Ferrer’s trailblazing printed hair is back. His collection La Favorite inspired artists both within and without the industry when it was released last year, and he’s taking those delicate French aesthetics even further with this season’s Sublime.

Inspired by the Old-World orientalist take on Eastern Asia that gave rise to a very real decorative phenomenon within 18th century France known as ‘Chinoiserie’, the East Asian florals and natural motifs that once bloomed far from home atop French wallpapers now grace Alexis Ferrer’s newest digitally printed locks. Captured by Lluís Domingo in a photography style which plays upon this throughline of discovery vs. theft, the level of detail paired with meticulous technique raises the bar for hairdressers yet again, and allows each wearer of unmistakable and unique expression.
